Trauma & PTSD
Trauma occurs when a person experiences a distressing event that exceeds their ability to cope. Such experiences can leave lasting psychological, emotional, and physiological impacts.

Trauma can stem from a single life-threatening event such as a car accident, or from ongoing experiences that affect someone's view of themselves, others, and the world around them.
Trauma also impacts our nervous system, our body's command centre. Someone who has experienced trauma might find that their ability to tolerate stress and discomfort has shrunk, causing them to feel more easily overwhelmed. Or, it might sometimes feel like their nervous system gets "stuck" in certain stress responses rather than being able to return to safety smoothly and quickly.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTD) is a diagnosable mental health condition that can develop after experiencing trauma. It involves a specific set of symptoms that persist over time that interfere with daily functioning. These symptoms typically include intrusive memories or flashbacks, feeling on edge, and avoiding things that bring back memories associated with the trauma.
